Experience
Dan brings a passion for creative and aggressive advocacy to the practice of law, making him a highly successful trial lawyer. He splits his practice between handling bet-the-company and other complex commercial litigation matters for companies and individuals in a broad range of industries, and pursuing civil rights cases.
In the last several years, his commercial litigation work has included contract disputes, fraud and RICO cases; employment and non-competition disputes; and other business disputes for emerging and established companies of all shapes and sizes. The unifying theme through this practice is a keen awareness of his clients' needs as cases progress from pre-suit negotiation through trial. This requires proactively designing legal strategies that meet the unique goals of each client.
Dan also represents plaintiffs bringing civil rights claims, which in recent years has included claims arising from police misconduct, First Amendment claims, Title IX claims, and claims on behalf of persons stuck in the U.S. immigration system. Through this work, Dan is able to vindicate the rights of people who have been treated unjustly by government actors and other institutions.
Before becoming an attorney, Dan served as an advisor at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, working on welfare policy and community development programs. At the beginning of his legal career, Dan practiced at the leading litigation firm in Washington D.C., Williams & Connolly LLP. He then relocated to Colorado in 2007 and began practicing at an international law firm with offices in Boulder and Denver before joining Hutchinson Black and Cook in 2017.
Dan sits on the Board of Directors for Better Boulder, a Boulder-based non-profit advocating for sustainable and smart development.
